Every year we hear that it’s the last of the Deadman. Every year the WWE needs filler or a big name to try to drum up more WWE Network subscriptions right before WrestleMania. This year the “Undertaker is back” story line got started a little early because of their show in Australia where he’ll take on Triple H FOR. THE. LAST. TIME. EVER! *wink*wink*
As soon as his music hit last night, I immediately regretted not making the two-hour drive to Columbus for Monday Night Raw. Seeing The Undertaker’s entrance in person is on my bucket list, and I don’t think it something I’ll ever get to check off.
That is, unless he keeps coming back year after year. Maybe I’ll get to take my kids to see his final showdown vs. Mick Foley in 2025 when they hold WrestleMania on the moon.
I grew up in the Attitude Era, so anytime they bring back Superstars from my childhood, I’m just as excited as I was back then to see their surprise entrances and antics, but for some reason The Undertaker’s annual comeback tour just doesn’t do it for me anymore. The first time or two was awesome, but now that it’s pretty much expected every year it isn’t the same.
Not only have the already announced that Undertaker will take on Triple H in Australia, but they started to lay the groundwork for a rematch of their WrestleMania XXVI retirement match, something that Shawn Michaels always swore he’d never even consider.
I don’t know if this is all to throw us off the scent of something bigger going on, or if they finally threw enough money at Shawn Michaels to get the match done, but I’m not sure I’m 100% on board with it.
Hell, who am I kidding. I’m here for it. Maybe we’ll even get the Texas Rattlesnake involved at some point during this new, old feud.
