I’ll have more on this later today with what this means for the 2020 Reds (spoiler alert: contention) and the current roster and what we can expect heading into Spring Training. But I don’t feel like I need to explain that this is a big fucking deal. This is the second Scott Boras client the Reds have wooed into coming to Cincinnati (the other being second baseman Mike Moustakas) this offseason and firmly places them as a legit NL Central contender and possibly more.
Clint Boling is calling it quits for the Bengals, and we wish we could retire early too. The Reds are off to a crappy start to the 2nd half of the season, and we wonder if they’ll be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. We also talk more in depth about the Reds 150th anniversary jerseys they’ve been wearing. Enjoy the show!
The Reds earned another series victory over the Cubs this past weekend, which included some fireworks between Yasiel Puig and Pedro Strop. We discuss that, David Bell’s record-setting ejection numbers and the fact that Castillo is the lone Reds All-Star. We touch on the ridiculous NBA free agency numbers and Mac and Whitty get their hopes up thanks to some late-breaking NHL free agency rumors. We also take a moment to wish are friends north of the border a Happy Canada day, as well as a Happy Fourth of July to all of our listeners here in the states.
On this week’s episode of Riverfront Radio we’re talking March Madness as we breakdown UC’s questionable seeding despite having won the AAC Tournament. We each give our Final Four predictions and we propose a show bet on who has the best bracket this year. We also discuss some of the maddening decisions the Bengals have made so far in free agency as our optimism for this season is already starting to dwindle.
After 50 episodes the Nati Boys are still going strong. We’re talking Bengals free agency on today’s episode and so far we’ve been pleasantly surprised. They’ve managed to resign a few key players in Eifert and Huber and filled some other holes through trades and external signings. Andre Smith and Russell Bodine have both signed elsewhere, which should ultimately lead to an improved offensive line, and there’s a new backup quarterback in town for all of the Dalton haters to start clamoring for. Finally, in honor of our 50th episode, we have a fantasy draft of things that lasted way longer than they should have.
Kirk Cousins has been topic of discussion every year for the last 3-4 off-seasons. Most of the news was centered around his struggle with Dan Snyder and the rest of the Redskins organization for them refusing to commit to him as their long-term franchise quarterback. Kirk cousins decided to gamble and play his way into a contract whether it was with the Redskins or somewhere else. Today his gamble paid off. Kirk Cousins just became the highest paid quarterback in the NFL, YOU LIKE THAT!?
Well, it is official AJ McCarron has won his grievance case against the Bengals and this means he is officially a free agent as of March. This also means that the botched trade with the Browns, as if it wasn’t bad enough, will sting just a little bit more. Continue reading →
