Who didn’t see this coming? AJ Green is injured (not hurt) and it’s got us all a little depressed about the start of Bengals training camp. We also ponder the future of some of our current Redlegs with the trade deadline coming up and the Reds pretty much eliminated from the divisional race. We also give Jeff a bunch of shit about his poor life choices. Enjoy the show!
The Reds are off to an absolutely abysmal start after the All Star break, which other than preventing Mac from having to get some awkward tattoos, has been of little benefit to us as fans. We discuss the potential trade deadline moves the team could make now that they’ve solidified themselves as sellers, and also give David Bell props for breaking the franchise record for single-season manager ejections. With the NFL preseason just a couple weeks away we start looking forward to football season and we take a few minutes to belittle each other for our personal preferences of ice cream flavors.
The Nati Boys (minus DB) are talking Bengals training camp this week as the NFL preseason is officially underway. We also discuss the MLB trade deadline, which passed earlier this week. While the Reds did make one move at the deadline, there were a few more that we expected to see, which inspired our fantasy draft of trades we’d most like to make.
When the Reds acquired Matt Harvey from the New York Mets in exchange for Devin Mesoraco in May, the assumption was they’d move him on or before the July 31st trade deadline. Harvey is on an expiring contract and by all accounts he and his agent Scott Boras (ever heard of him?) plan on testing the free agent market in the off-season.
Everyone thought today was the day, but as 4PM struck, Matt Harvey was still a Red. And he and his teammates seem happy about it. Continue reading →
Adam Duvall, Matt Harvey, Billy Hamilton, Scooter Gennett, Raisel Inglesias. All names we heard as possible trading chips as the Reds put the finishing touches on their rebuild. Well, Adam Duvall wasn’t the most likely player to be dealt, but he was the first.
With the July 31st trade deadline looming, its very possible Saturday night was the last we’ll see of Matt Harvey in a Reds uniform*. To say the trade to bring Matt Harvey from New York was a success would be a major understatement. A lot of people scoffed at the idea and predicted he’d be unhappy in Cincinnati, leading to poor performance and clubhouse drama. In fact, the exact opposite has happened. By all accounts, Matt Harvey has been a valuable asset on and off the field. Other veterans on the team don’t want him to be traded, and that tells me all I need to know about Matt Harvey.
