Tired of waiting for the next great blog from yours truly? You’re not alone. The world has been clamoring for more Whitty. And I can’t blame you one bit. But you’re in luck, because I’m back and better than ever. We’ve officially made it to another year. Welcome to 2018, folks. Is this the year your favorite team finally breaks through to the next level and wins itself a long-awaited championship? No. No it’s not. You’re doomed to a lifetime of sports despair, just like me. (Unless you’re an Alabama fan, I guess). But that’s okay. There are plenty of other things you can find joy in during this new year. You could take some time away from your phone/tablet/computer to get out and enjoy the beauty of nature. You could spend some quality time bonding with family and friends. You could pick up a new hobby or skill. Or you could enjoy the latest edition of your favorite blogger’s “weekly” recurring post. Speaking of which, here’s your first Wake Up With Whitty of 2018. Ho ho ho and welcome to a special Christmas edition of Wake Up With Whitty. We’re in the part of the sports year where the NHL and NBA seasons are starting to pick up, there’s an obscure bowl game on TV every single day and we’re getting the weird Saturday evening NFL games. Yesterday we had a small Christmas miracle in Cincinnati when the Bengals beat a Lions team that had playoff aspirations heading into the weekend. The Negative Nancies will point out the fact that the Bengals only managed to hurt their draft position by winning, which may be true, but I’d still rather see a win than a loss any day. Call me old fashioned.
With the holidays in full swing, what better time than now to start a new Christmas tradition? You’ve got your family gathered together as you unwrap presents beneath the glow of the tree while listening to crackle of the fire coming from the Yule Log app on your TV. Sure, you could have made a real fire but who wants to go through that hassle? Plus your stockings have all been hung by the chimney, presumably with care, and that’s a fire hazard, so Netflix will have to do. So what better way to keep up the festive atmosphere than by reading some random blogger’s thoughts on a few obscure sports topics? Gather up the fam and check out the latest edition of Wake Up With Whitty!
Good morning Good evening Hello and welcome to another edition of Wake Up With Whitty. We’re midway through December and the unthinkable has happened. The Bengals have been officially eliminated from playoff contention. I know, I’m as shocked as you are. I could’ve sworn they’d clinched a playoff spot like three weeks ago since they’ve played so well this year. The good news is that Bengals fans can watch the last two weeks of the season without worrying about the games’ outcomes. At this point the best case for the Bengals would be to lose out in order to get the best possible draft pick, but I just can’t get on #TeamTank. It feels wrong. So I’ll continue to pull for the Bengals to win, knowing that if they don’t then they’re still going to better their draft position. It’s win-win. Or lose-lose, I’m not quite sure. Anyways, here’s Wake Up With Whitty.
Good morning and welcome to another edition of Wake Up With Whitty. It’s finally every Bengals fan’s favorite time of year: the week that the Bengals place Tyler Eifert on season ending injured reserve. It only took a little over 4 weeks this year, almost a record time. Fun fact, I bought an Eifert jersey prior to the 2014 season. He didn’t even make it through the first game that year. Since I purchased the jersey he’ll have played in 24 out of a possible 64 games for the Bengals (including the remainder of the 2017 season). Many people are saying he’s fallen victim to the infamous Whitty Jersey Curse. Did I contribute to his inability to stay healthy by purchasing his jersey? (Maybe.). Is it just a coincidence? (Probably.) Should I grow up and be an adult and stop wearing sports jerseys in general? (Never.) There’s a pretty good chance that we’ve seen him play his last game as a Bengal. As an Eifert fan, that’s tough to swallow, but it’s hard to justify keeping a guy around when he’s on the field for less than half of the team’s games. So instead, fans have to come to terms and do the only thing that’s reasonable: focus on other peoples’ problems to distract us from our own. Here’s Wake Up With Whitty. Continue reading
Hello and welcome to another edition of Wake Up With Whitty. It’s October and the NHL season is finally here. The Blue Jackets looked sharp in their season-opening 5-0 victory over the Islanders. As an unbiased observer (fan) I honestly cannot envision a scenario where the Jackets don’t go 82-0 (Editor’s Note: 81-1-0) and then sweep their way to a Stanley Cup championship. I know it was only one game, but I’ve seen enough to say that I can’t see anyone beating this team (Editor’s Note: Again.). It was also great seeing the Penguins on the wrong side of a 10-1 ass kicking. I don’t usually care for the Blackhawks, but anyone that embarrasses the Pens like that is okay in my book. Let’s just hope they got it all out of their systems for tonight.
Good morning and welcome to another edition of Wake Up With Whitty. A lot is going on in the sports world right now. The college basketball world has been rocked by scandal, which hits particularly hard if you happen to be a Louisville fan. We’re just a day away from October, which is a huge month for sports. College football teams start to get into the bulk of their conference schedules, MLB playoffs get underway, and the NHL and NBA seasons start up (Wake me up when September ends, am I right?). So go ahead and settle in with your caffeinated beverage of choice. Maybe it’s coffee. Maybe it’s tea. Maybe it’s an energy drink. Maybe it’s something really cool that I don’t even know about. I’m accepting of all ways of life here, unlike one of my coffee-drinking elitist fellow bloggers. Unless you’re one of those people that just wake up naturally energized and don’t need caffeine to get through life. That’s weird. Get out of here with that shit.
Good morning and welcome to another edition of Wake Up With Whitty. College football is officially here, as we have a full slate of games ahead of us today. Among those games is possibly one of the most anticipated season openers ever, #1 Alabama vs #3 Florida State. This very well could be a preview of one of our College Football Playoff matchups. Several other teams kicked off their seasons earlier this week, including the Ohio State Buckeyes (check out my recap here) and the Cincinnati Bearcats, who both opened the season with wins on Thursday night. If you’re looking to kill some time between now and that next big game, then check out this edition of Wake Up With Whitty and let me know what you think.
Good morning and welcome to another edition of Wake Up With Whitty. We’re heading into weekend number two of the NFL preseason, which is generally your best chance to see some extended playing time from the starting units on each team. We’re also just one short week away from the start of the college football season. As a fan of a sub-par MLB team, it’s a been a painfully long summer from a sports standpoint, but the wait is finally almost over. To get mentally prepared I’ve gathered a collection of old remotes to practice throwing at the TV in anger during tonight’s Bengals/Chiefs matchup. It’s preseason for the fans too you know, so study up on your favorite team’s roster and start practicing your obscenities that you’ll be screaming at its players on Saturdays/Sundays. And once you’ve gotten that out of your system, come back here and leave some positive, uplifting comments about how great this week’s Wake Up With Whitty was.
Welcome to another edition of Wake Up With Whitty. It’s mid-August which means football season is right around the corner. Even if it is just the preseason, it’s great to see football back on TV, and it’s even more fun watching everyone overreact to how a specific player performs during two series in a meaningless game. Last night the Bengals defeated the Buccaneers 23-12. Based on that performance I think it’s safe for Bengals fans to start booking hotels in Minneapolis for that first weekend in February. At this point I don’t see any way the Bengals don’t make it to the Super Bowl this year. And once you’re done finalizing your travel arrangements, be sure to come back here and let me know what you think of this week’s Wake Up With Whitty. Continue reading
Welcome to another edition of Wake Up With Whitty. August is now upon us as football season is less than a month away. The NFL preseason kicked off earlier this week with the Cowboys beating the Cardinals in the Hall of Fame game (glad to see they got their field paint situation sorted out) and the college football season gets started in just 3 short weeks. So sit tight folks, pretty soon you’ll have another reason to get out of bed on the weekends besides some blogger’s weekly posts about nothing. But for now, you’re stuck with me, so sit back, relax and enjoy.
